Spring

Our topics this term are ‘In to the Woods’ and ‘The Tear Thief’ by Carol Ann Duffy.

In Literacy we will be:

  • Reading a range of traditional and fairy tales
  • Expressing opinions about fairy tale characters using evidence from the text
  • Identifying and using a range of powerful vocabulary in stories and our own writing (including verbs, adverbs, adjectives, conjunctions and expanded noun phrases).
  • Learning about and using similes in our writing
  • Learning about and using alliteration in our writing
  • Using dialogue in our story writing (and inverted commas to punctuate dialogue)
  • Planning and writing a sustained narrative

 

In Maths we will be:

  • Telling the time to the nearest 15 minutes
  • Finding fractions of different shapes and amounts
  • Solving addition and subtraction word problems
  • Finding different amounts using money
  • Naming and describe properties of 2D and 3D shapes, including number of sides, vertices, edges, faces and lines of symmetry
  • Learning how to measure capacity and mass

 

In topic we will be:

  • Learning about living things and about the seven signs of life
  • Learning about the growth of humans and other animals
  • Learning about the habitats and adaptations of a variety of animals
  • Learning about food chains
  • Planning, delivering and writing up a scientific investigation in to how plants grow
  • Listening to a range of music, discussing it using technical vocabulary such as pitch, tempo, dynamics etc.
  • Exploring sound and musical instruments and then composing our own pieces to accompany a scene from a fairy tale
  • Learning about computing algorithms, writing our own and planning and debugging simple sequences.
  • Learning how to stay safe online
  • Classifying various materials based on their properties, learning how these can be changed and why they are chosen for certain purposes
  • Investigating changes to materials when they are heated
  • Using a variety of different materials to design, make and evaluate products
