Our topics this term are ‘Healthy Living’ and ‘There’s no place like home’.

In Literacy we will be…

  • Recognising the difference between past and present tense and trying to stay consistently in the same tense in our writing.
  • Looking at spelling patterns when writing past tense verbs.
  • Using a range of past tense verbs to write recounts of a significant event.
  • Using a range of conjunctions to add detail and interest to our writing.
  • Focusing on consistent use of basic punctuation and uniform handwriting.
  • Using imperative verbs to write instructions.
  • Selecting specific conjunctions that are fit for purpose in our writing.
  • Structuring our writing in chronological order to write instructions.
  • Listening to, performing and responding to a range of poetry.
  • Recognising and using poetic devices such as onomatopoeia, alliteration, rhyming, and language play when reading and writing poetry.

In Maths we will be…

  • Learning how to use correct mathematical terms to convey position and direction.
  • Solving problems using efficient methods.
  • Reviewing understanding of how to measure time, mass, capacity and temperature.
  • Carrying out simple mathematical investigations.

 

In topic we will be…

  • Learning about where food comes from.
  • Learning about the importance of exercise, eating healthily and hygiene in relation to healthy living.
  • Learning about the importance of eating the right amounts of certain types of food and eating a balanced diet.
  • Investigating the impact of different types of exercise on our own heart rates.
  • Paying close attention when creating observational drawings.
  • Looking at how Newmarket has changed within the last 100 years.
  • Learning about the lives of significant people locally and the impact of their achievements on Newmarket.
  • Identifying key human and physical geographical features of our own local environment.
  • Comparing and contrasting our own environment with other places significant to us (in England and around the world).
  • Discussing key similarities and differences between our families and others and how we live and how others live around the world.
  • Learning how to do Brazilian samba drumming with the Suffolk County Music service!
